Master’s Research

I conducted qualitative health research which aimed to examine the reasons that HIV and STI rates are high among Dutch Caribbean MSM in the Netherlands, how this is related to their sexual practices and what the impact of PrEP use will be for their sexual health. Additionally, this research explored the effect that the intersection of race/ethnicity, socio-economic background, and sexuality has on the experience of gay and bisexual Dutch Caribbean men with HIV prevention in the Netherlands. Using primarily in-depth interviews I examined sexual practices, in relation to HIV prevention and other STIs. The aim was to ascertain what role PrEP might play among this population when it becomes widely available for use in the Netherlands.
